What do you want and why you want it? [in relation to my own project]

November 1, 2010

Why do I want to do a project/study at Ravensbourne?
I want to enhance my new media and broadcast knowledge whilst gaining a postgraduate qualification. I expect to take some of my expertise to the next level and expose me to new technologies and practices. I also would like to produce a great piece of work to add to my portfolio.

The broadcasting industry interests me and as I have worked in this field for a number of years. I would like to expand my knowledge and further my education, by opening my mind to new ways of thinking and ideas.

What I want my project to be about?
My idea is about how the London 2012 Olympic games can use latest broadcasting technologies to enhance the viewers experience of the games e.g. 3D TV, IPTV, apps for the second screen etc.
Areas that could be explored are, what does Olympic sports look like in 3D e.g. archery, diving, synchronised swimming or how can viewers at home with their IP set top box/TV interact with Olympic content? At the moment my project idea is quiet broad, but it is a subject that interests me, the idea will evolve and become more focused.

The way the viewer consumes content and interacts with TV is changing, and this needs to be explored in reference to the Olympic games.

So, my project lead question is
“How can new technologies be exploited for London 2012 games to enhance the viewer’s  experience?”

dont know if you have seen this but

is a video of the F1 app where you can check out live results and positions, a bit rubbish on its own, however when watching the TV or sat in a box at the event it suddenly becomes priceless as you can watch your sport and get live updates as things progress, a full app for all the events could be intresting with similar stats.

    what you think?

    Hi Michelle,

Sounds interesting but I’m not sure if I’m hearing any passion from you about the subject area. Ho much do you really care about this area of study and why? I’d be interested to know what really motivates you in your pursuit of this knowledge and expertise.

    Best,
    Alan
