Useful conversation about my project

November 8, 2010

This week I started a conversation with iWatch3D on twitter, exploring what sports 3D lends itself to.

Here is my question?

hi, am doing some research for uni, what is the best sport to watch in 3D?

Here is the response

hi, I’d say basketball for the action happening in close proximity to cameras, but snooker would look great too

As a (retired!) high-jumper I’d love to see high-jump, pole vault and diving in 3D.

Grand Prix in 3D, now that make me interested! I’d love to see hockey in 3D as well.
To be honest, any sport in 3D would just make it better, everyone always says its better to actually go and physically watch, with 3D it makes it possible.
It would be interesting to see if by using 3D and some less ‘static’ cameras, the effects could be cinematic, and what i mean by not ‘static’ are cameras that can travel 360 degrees around the subject.
Just get a 3D cam and a circular track, bing, bang, bosh!
Sounds like an interesting project, this will be awesome to research and write your dissertation about. Good luck!

Boxing looks good in 3D because the ring size and lighting gives a ringside position to the viewer. However, if the referee comes into shot after the cameraman has focused up on the boxers, it can be slightly disorientating.
