3D – what do people think

On speaking to a number of my friends and family about 3D, it gets a mixed response. A lot are not interested in 3D and don’t rate it, but they are the ones that have not seen any 3D movies or Sky 3D, so they are passing judgment without experiencing it (thinking back there were the ones who didn’t see the point of HD, but now they watch HD TV and can see the difference). That’s because they are Laggards (the opposite of early adopters).

Then there is my father in law who is 88, who is really interested in getting  a 3D TV, but the content that is on Sky 3D is not the TV programme genre that he watches (he doesn’t like sport).

So what do I think….

Film studios like 3D movies because the make more money from 3D film, this is  one of the factors that makes 3D here to stay (Edmund, 2011). Some things work really well, in 3D, like concerts you feel totally immersed in the performance and in the best seat in the house, you want to join in and wave you arms. Also 3D TV in the home has never been done before.

Yesterday, I saw some 3D footage of yacht racing and the depth/3D of the sea and the waves made it looked spectacular, it felt so real.

I have also watched a few football matches in 3D, seeing the angles and the direction of the ball, makes it feel like you are at the game.

So, to conclude I think 3D is here to stay and I am sure we will get a 3D TV in 2011.

Found an article about the Royal Wedding, there was speculation that it is going to be filmed in 3D however this has changed. Just thinking, this may be useful to the do’s and do not’s of 3D, if not, no worries!!

2012 was a phenomenal year for 3D movies, with the likes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Avengers Assemble and Brave all making a big impact on the box office. And the movie industry has certainly not fallen out of love with stereoscopic 3D yet, with plenty of great new releases coming our way. Here we take a look at some of the most exciting 3D movies you can look foward to in 2013, including full details and sneak-peek trailers. `
